Chelsea ready to sell flop striker Torres for 20 million pounds

London, Dec 14: Chelsea is reportedly prepared to sell striker Fernando Torres and will listen to any club prepared to offer around 20 million pounds in next month's transfer window.
Torres has scored just three Premier League goals since his 50 million pounds move to Chelsea from Liverpool on January 31.
According to the Daily Mail, the club will have to take a massive financial hit on the most expensive player in British football history, but they have almost exhausted their other options.
The 27-year-old is currently behind Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order.

Real Madrid star Ronaldo: Premier League better than Spanish Liga
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo says the Premier League is superior to the Spanish Liga.
Ronaldo believes Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City represent a competition that remains stronger than the Spanish League.
He told the Mirror: "They are the two best leagues in the world but the English Premier League is more competitive.
"La Liga is competitive but not as intense as England. In Spain the play is more technical, they like to have the ball, they play more football.
"In England, it is more intense, referees let the game go on more, and I think fans there like that. I like that too - quick football, tackles, it's brilliant.
"I understand that it is great to watch, but sometimes for the more skilful players, who have more imagination, it can make life hard.
"You don't get so much protection. In Spain, some might say you get too much but for a guy who likes to dribble it is important. Both leagues though are very, very cool."

Ex civil war soldier’s life story inspires Mario Balotelli to fund school
Mario Balotelli has shown a more caring and passionate side by donating a huge part of his income to help build a school in the village of a former boy soldier of the Sudan civil war.
The Italian striker’s friendship with John Kon Kelei grew after meeting the 29-year-old ex rebel in Milan last summer, and heard about his dreadful life story.
They decided to name part of the Cuey Machar school the ‘Mario Balotelli Wing’ after the Manchester City star’s generous funding.
Kelei was kidnapped by rebels at the age of four and incredibly was forced to fight in his country’s civil war, but he managed to escape the horror, studied at school and eventually became a graduate in law.
His amazing story, which was captured in a film, was watched by Balotelli who was so touched that he immediately decided to dig deep to help finance the building of the classrooms.
Now, the footballer is getting regular updates of how the pupils are coping and will help further.
“Kon told me that he was forced by rebels to use a rifle which was bigger and heavier than he was,” the Daily Star quoted Balotelli as saying.
“He wasn’t even able to hold the rifle properly.
“But he managed to run away and save himself. “He could have built a new life but he wanted to help his country. So I have helped him,” he added.

Premier League - Anelka's Chinese deal confirmed
The 32-year-old will join Shenhua in January, the club said in a statement on its website.
Shanghai, who finished 11th in the league last season, have also been linked with Didier Drogba, Anelka's team mate at English Premier League side Chelsea.
Several Chinese clubs have reportedly contacted Ivory Coast international Drogba about a possible transfer. Last month Drogba refused a one-year extension to his contract at Chelsea and the 33-year-old's deal at the London club expires next year.
Local media have reported that former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker Anelka's lucrative contract would involve both football and commercial co-operation.
While the signing of Anelka may signal an upswing for the sport in the country, Chinese football has lurched from crisis to crisis in recent years and disaffected fans have turned away from the game amid corruption scandals, match-fixing and violence on and off the pitch.
The national team has qualified for the World Cup finals only once when they played in the 2002 edition held in South Korea and Japan but lost all their group matches and failed to score a goal.
In January, they exited the 16-team Asian Cup at the first hurdle after finishing third in their group behind Uzbekistan and hosts Qatar.

Euro 2012 - Rooney ban reduced by one game
Rooney was originally banned for three games after kicking Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic in England's final qualifier but the Football Association appealed against the severity of the punishment.
After a hearing at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on Thursday morning, the governing body announced that the third game of the three-match will now be suspended for four years.
If Rooney finds himself in disciplinary trouble for violent conduct in a UEFA international game then the third game will be activated.
Rooney will miss the Euro 2012 games against France and Sweden but is free to play in the final group game against Ukraine.
"The three-match suspension levelled against Wayne Rooney is now suspended, with the third game of the suspension, suspended for four years, so Wayne will be available for the final group game of the European championship against Ukraine," Adrian Bevington, the managing director of Club England, told reporters at UEFA's headquarters.
"It is effectively a two-game suspension with one carried over for a four-year period for the national team."
He added: "I am pleased to say we have had a very fair hearing from UEFA's panel and we are very pleased with what's happened today."
The FA accompanied Rooney to Switzerland for the hearing after he played in Manchester United's Champions League defeat to Basel on Wednesday night.
England manager Fabio Capello also travelled to the appeal along with the FA's legal support team.
It is believed the FA argued a three-match ban that affects games in the finals of a major tournament is a harsher sanction than a suspension of a similar length which would just affect matches in a qualifying tournament.
Dzudovic, the Montenegro player kicked by Rooney, also provided evidence on the England striker's behalf.

Arsenal fans have ‘already forgotten’ Fabregas, Nasri: Benayoun
Arsenal midfielder Yossi Benayoun insists that the club’s fans have already forgotten former stars Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Benayoun arrived on loan from Chelsea on August 31, the same days as Mikel Arteta, Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos.
“Fabregas and Nasri are both good players and, maybe, the fans expected even bigger names. But I think all the players Arsene Wenger bought on the last day of the transfer window have proved themselves and we are playing much better and winning games,” the Sun quoted Benayoun, as saying.
He also feels that Arsene Wenger’s side has improved dramatically following the nightmare start to the season.
“I think the supporters now understand we have a good team with a lot of quality and I believe they have already forgotten about the other players,” he added.

Martin O'Neill 'excited’ by Sunderland potential
Martin O’Neill is relishing the challenge ahead of him as Sunderland manager as he looks to galvanise a dressing room that has been sucked dry of confidence and belief.
Having previously turned down the chance to manage the club he supported as a young boy, O’Neill admitted he feared he would not be given another one.
But 16 months after parting company with Aston Villa, O’Neill had no hesitation in taking the job as he spoke enthusiastically about unlocking the true potential of a club he believes have underachieved for more than half a century.
“It’s so exciting, I can hardly tell you,” said O’Neill, who was approached by former chairman Niall Quinn before Roy Keane took the job in August 2006.
“Not just because it happened to be my boyhood team. That’s beside the point, but there’s incredible passion around the place. They turn up in great numbers and I just want to be part of it.
“First of all, I’m excited about managing the club. I want to grasp that opportunity. I think I’ve got enough determination, enough drive, enough energy to make it a success. I definitely hope that’s what I’ll be able to do. We all know those ingredients might not be enough but it won’t be through a lack of trying.

Russia proud to be hosting FIFA World Cup™
One year on from the award of the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ to Russia it appears that positivity surrounding the tournament is already at a high level. With seven years to go until the FIFA World Cup™ in Russia kicks off, FIFA’s latest global market research investigation looked to shed light on the thoughts, hopes and aspirations of the Russian people at this early stage in the preparation process.
The study reveals that 51 per cent of the Russian population is aware that the FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia in 2018. This awareness level rises to 61 per cent among those interested in football. This figure can be expected to rise in the coming years as 2018 approaches and the nation begins to turn its attention to the impending arrival of world football’s flagship event.
The research also highlights that Russians have faith in the steps taken by the LOC and Russian Government in preparation for the tournament. Of those aware that the event will take place in Russia, 74 per cent believe that it will prove to be a great success.
A total 43 per cent of the Russian population is either ‘interested’ or ‘very interested’ in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This interest can also be expected to rise in the coming years, particularly driven by the improvements in the country’s infrastructure and construction of new stadiums.
There is a strong sense of pride among Russians in the fact that they are hosting the tournament. 61 per cent state that they are proud that Russia is hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The tournament is also seen as an opportunity to portray Russia in a positive light and change long held perceptions. There is a belief held by 54 per cent of the population that hosting the tournament will improve the image of their country abroad.
Previous research shows that Russians have every reason to be optimistic about hosting the FIFA World Cup. The 2010 edition of the event delivered on the expectations of the South African people. Despite pre-event press reports doubting South Africa’s readiness to host the event, the South African people themselves were extremely confident that the host nation would be ready and that the competition would be a success, leaving a lasting legacy.
Independent research conducted for FIFA subsequent to the 2010 FIFA World Cup vindicated South Africa’s optimism. 83 per cent of South Africans say that they are benefitting and will continue to benefit in the long term from the country’s hosting of the event. Further, 94 per cent believe that the event improved the image of South Africa with foreigners and has as a result strengthened their tourism industry. It is also widely agreed (by 91 per cent of the population) that hosting the FIFA World Cup has had a long term impact on the country’s infrastructure such as roads, public transport and telecommunications.

In addition to the awards given to the best male and the best female player, the best coaches as well as to the scorer of the best goal, three more honours will be revealed: the FIFA/FIFPro World XI, the FIFA Presidential Award and the FIFA Fair Play Award.
